Our Curriculum

Educational approach:
At South Gate Academy we have a BLENDED learning approach and focus on developing quality reading, writing, math and thinking skills, exposing your child to a stimulating learning program which is age appropriate and relevant. Our team places a high value on individual character and skill development in collaboration with parents. English is the primary teaching and learning language. We focus on Individualised & Mastery Based learning through tested curriculum and skill development project based programs.

Curriculum:
Our curriculum is CAPS aligned and the matric is an international matric accredited on a SAQA level 4 (similar to national senior certificate of public schools). We have a continuous assessment system, everything counts.

Preschool:
We use the AEE (Accelerated Education Enterprises) Pre School materials as our core paper based & activity based curriculum.
This is blended with various learning through play activities developing the child’s fine and gross motor skills.

Foundation Phase (Gr R-3):
A combination of two curriculums (AEE and SwitchedOn Education ) which are combined with various alternative methods, materials, projects and activities to stimulate learning and discovery of the child’s skill and interests (Blended learning).

Intermediate & Senior Phase (Gr 4-8):
Students will start working on Laptops from Grade 4. We use the digital online curriculum called SwitchedOn Education  (accredited SAQA level 4) for grade 4-12. This curriculum will enable the student to develop and learn at their own pace and mastery levels. The school can personalise and customise their unique learning pathway. This is a first of its kind in our district.

High School (Grade 9-12):
In Grade 9, students will start their 4-year international matric qualification towards achieving their American High School Diploma (AHSD). Students will have various options in terms of subject choices and career paths, for matric. The Advanced American High School Diploma is accepted at Universities in SA and across the world. In the matric final year, students will also need to write the American SAT exam.
